About the CHEN Lab
Our research examines how emotions and social relationships change across normal and clinical aging and how these changes influence health and well-being. We study individuals, couples, and families using interdisciplinary laboratory methods together with real-world technologies, including wearable devices, physiological sensing, GPS, and in-home sensors.
Emotion & Social Connectedness
We study how emotions unfold over time, how people influence one another emotionally, and how social relationships affect health and well-being across adulthood and aging.
Aging, Dementia & Family Caregiving
We examine how aging, dementia, and neurodegenerative disease influence emotional, behavioral, and interpersonal processes, with particular attention to couples, families, and caregivers.
Technology & Real-World Sensing
We use wearable devices, GPS, physiological sensors, and in-home sensing technologies to study emotions, behavior, activity, and social interaction in everyday life.
